The thrust boring guidance system is a type of trenchless equipment from Pow-R Mole Trenchless Solutions that is designed for installation of pipes, conduits, and cables in areas that cannot be dug up or may result in significant disturbance due to excavation.
Our Range of Thrust Boring Guidance Systems
We offer the PD-2, PD-4, and PD-6 directional thrust boring machines. These are steerable, allowing them to follow shallow curves and grades. These trenchless technologies include two types of guidance systems: digital and analog steering.
Digital Steering
The PD-4 and PD-6 trenchless products are able to locate the head to within inches using Digital Detection Technology. This trenchless technology accurately guides through compressible soil by transmitting pitch, orientation, depth, and location through digital and radio signals, including:
- Target-in-the-box indicates the location of the head.
- A clock face indicates the orientation of the conically shaped head.
- A read out is displayed in either percentage or degrees indicates the pitch.
- Single button depth reading.
- Data View allows the machine operator to see in real time any rotation or grade changes that may need to be made.
- Intuitive target-in-the-box® locating
- Left/right remote steering
- Roll/pitch update meter
- Roll offset
- Picture-driven menu

Analog Steering
The PD-2, PD-4 and PD-6 can all use Analog Detection Technology, which is less expensive and also establishes location to within inches. Information is sent to the Receiver by the 32.8 kHz Transmitter/Sonde, allowing for accurate steering around obstacles in compressible soil.
Steering The Bore
The PD-2, PD-4, and PD-6 also can use a more affordable Analog Detection Technology in steering your bore. You will be able to locate the head of the lead rod to accurately establish its location underground to within inches. The detection equipment provides information that indicates the orientation, location, and depth of our conically shaped steering head. This allows you to guide the rods around obstacles such as pipes, ducting and building foundations safely and accurately until the final target is reached.
Steering Heads
A series of conically shaped steering heads allow you to control the path of the rod string. These heads are specially designed and manufactured to give maximum control in almost any compressible soil.
Receiver and Transmitter
The 32.8 kHz Transmitter/Sonde located in a housing at the front of the rod string sends an analog signal. The Transmitted signals are received and translated by the Receiver. The translated information is presented to the operator which will allow the operator to make any necessary changes
