Your Pneumatic Piercing Tools: Tips on Proper Maintenance

October 15, 2021 | Categories: Pneumatic Piercing Tools

Once you’ve invested in dependable pneumatic piercing tools, the next important step is to take care of your new products. With proper care, your pneumatic piercers can last for many years and provide invaluable help. Fortunately, maintaining them isn’t all that complicated or time-consuming.

Power Mole Trenchless offers these handy tips for the proper maintenance of essential your piercing tools.

Inspect the Tool

Always inspect Grundomat or Hudco pneumatic piercing tools after using them. Pay extra attention to the screws and their caps. If a screw or cap gets loose, the air will leak. This reduces the power and effectiveness of the pneumatic tool. Look for cracked caps and stripped screws and sockets, too. Look for other types of wear and tear, including rust, corrosion, and craze lines.

Clean the Moving Parts

The nature of trenchless rehabilitation projects means exposure to plenty of dirt, debris, and moisture. You’ll need to clean all the moving parts of the Hudco or Grundomat pneumatic piercing tools after each job. Spend extra time cleaning the air fitting and feed system. Blow debris out of the unit with air, then lubricate as recommended with the proper oil type.

Add Oil

If you’re working a long, complicated job, you’ll need to stop mid-way through to add a few drops of oil to the O-rings and metal. Doing so prevents the pneumatic piercing tools from getting gummy or wet. Do this again at the end of the day. Be sure to cap the male end of the air inlets.

Spending a few extra minutes on tool maintenance at the end of each job goes a long way in protecting your critical piercing tools. Well-maintained tools are safer, more effective, and more efficient at doing their jobs. Reach out to us at Power Mole Trenchless for additional information about pneumatic underground piercing tools.
